How Much Do People Trust AI Agent KOLs?
At least 1 out of every 4 persons expressed high trust in AI agent key opinion leaders (KOLs) or influencers on Crypto Twitter (CT), according to a recent survey. This 26.6% percentage share of participants include 13.5% who felt like they could mostly trust AI agents as KOLs, and 13.1% who completely trust them.
In comparison, a slightly lower 21.4% of participants indicated high trust in human KOLs on Crypto Twitter. 10.0% were those who mostly trust KOL accounts run by actual people on CT, while 11.4% felt they could completely trust them.
Overall, only a minority share of survey participants felt a high level of trust toward Crypto Twitter’s KOLs in general. But despite gaining mainstream attention only recently, AI agent KOLs seem to have already overtaken the original human KOLs in terms of trustworthiness. The relatively greater trust in AI agents may be because people perceive AI agents as having less personal bias, while trust in human KOLs has likely been eroded over time.
The remaining majority share of 73.4% to 78.4% expressed limited trust in Crypto Twitter KOLs.
19.8% of participants felt no trust at all toward AI agent KOLs, while a slightly larger share of 21.2% distrusted human KOLs entirely. Another 21.1% had slight trust in AI agent KOLs, or 23.2% for human KOLs.
Around a third of participants felt like they could somewhat trust crypto KOLs, making this the most common sentiment in the survey. Specifically, 32.5% of participants said they somewhat trust AI agent KOLs on Crypto Twitter, while 34.3% felt the same for human KOLs.
Trust in AI Agent KOLs vs Human KOLs
A significant 62.0% of participants held the same level of trust towards both AI agent KOLs and human KOLs. This suggests that at least 3 in 5 participants did not differentiate between AI versus human, when it came to how much they trusted Crypto Twitter KOLs.
For example, 13.8% had zero trust in either AI agent or human KOLs, whereas 9.2% completely trust both AI and human KOLs.
| No trust in AI agent KOLs | Slight trust in AI agent KOLs | Somewhat trust AI agent KOLs | Mostly trust AI agent KOLs | Completely trust AI agent KOLs | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| No trust in human KOLs | 13.8% | 3.4% | 2.2% | 0.6% | 1.2% |
| Slight trust in human KOLs | 3.4% | 11.8% | 5.7% | 1.9% | 0.4% |
| Somewhat trust human KOLs | 1.8% | 4.5% | 22.0% | 4.9% | 1.1% |
| Mostly trust human KOLs | 0.3% | 1.3% | 1.9% | 5.4% | 1.2% |
| Completely trust human KOLs | 0.6% | 0.2% | 0.7% | 0.7% | 9.2% |
Once again, a moderate level of trust in CT KOLs accounted for the largest percentage share as the most consistent sentiment: 22.0% of participants, or 1 in 5 expressed that they somewhat trust crypto KOLs, regardless of whether they are AI or human.
Meanwhile, 22.6% of participants indicated more trust in AI agent KOLs than human KOLs. For example, this included a 3.4% share of participants who distrust human KOLs entirely, but still slightly trust AI agent KOLs.
On the other hand, 15.4% expressed the opposite sentiment of trusting humans more than AI agents as KOLs. This was led by a 4.5% share of participants who only slightly trust AI agent KOLs, but felt they could somewhat trust human KOLs.
Methodology
The study examined 2,632 crypto participants’ responses in the anonymous CoinGecko Crypto x AI Survey, which ran from February 20 to March 10, 2025. Survey results should be taken as indicative only.
Among the survey participants, 51% considered themselves as crypto investors with mainly long-term holdings, 26% identified as traders with mainly shorter-term holdings, 10% as builders and 13% as sidelined spectators. In terms of how long participants had been in crypto, 53% were in their first cycle (0 to 3 years in crypto), 34% in their second cycle (4 to 7 years) and the remaining participants were veterans with 8 or more years of experience. Geographically, 93% of participants stated that they were based in Europe, Asia, North America and Africa, while the rest were in Oceania or South America.
