CoinGecko Virtual Meetup Featured Guest: Arthur Cheong (Founder of DeFiance Capital)

This month, we will be discussing the State of Crypto 2021 and one of our featured guests is Arthur Cheong, founder of DeFiance Capital. DeFiance Capital is a Decentralized Finance (DeFi) focused cryptoasset fund that combines fundamental research with an activist investment approach.

1. Can you share a bit about yourself with us?

I am the founder of DeFiance Capital, a DeFi focused crypto fund combining fundamental research & active participation approach based in Singapore. Before crypto I was in the oil trading space.

2. How did you first discover crypto and got involved in the space?

I was introduced to crypto from my ex-coworkers about this new technology and censorship-resistant currency.I started doing more research and was captivated by the potential offered by crypto.

3. What was the idea behind your company?

DeFiance Capital was founded with the belief that Decentralized Finance is the biggest product market fit for crypto and permissionless blockchain thus making it the best sector to invest in. We believe there’s a big role for a DeFi focused crypto fund to play in this space. There’s also a lack of crypto funds with strong fundamental understanding in Asia.

4. What are your thoughts on the crypto market this year? Can you briefly explain it to us?

I think crypto market will truly go mainstream this year and unlike 2017, there’s a lot more useful product especially in the DeFi space that normal users can interact and benefit from. Crypto will also be increasingly recognized as a legit asset class to allocate to for asset managers globally.
