Bitget Boosts Morph

The crypto exchange Bitget has expanded the role of its BGB token by becoming the native gas token for the Morph Layer-2 network.

In a recent announcement by Bitget, the strategic partnership with Morph is intended to expand BGB’s utility across various networks and on-chain applications.

For Morph, they will be able to leverage the userbase of Bitget and its Bitget Wallet app as a distribution channel for providing faster and better payment services.

As part of the deal, the entirety of Bitget’s 440M BGB holdings have been transferred to the Morph Foundation.

Half of that amount has been burnt in a single transaction, while the remainder will be unlocked monthly for liquidity incentives.

The Morph Foundation will also begin plans to overhaul BGB’s token burns, with a long-term target of shrinking the token’s 1.1B supply to 100M.

Since the news, the price of BGB has risen by 7.0% from $4.76 to $5.09 today.

Back Up and Running

BNB Chain-based lending protocol Venus has resumed all operations after the platform was exploited for around $27M.

The team confirmed that the lost funds had been retrieved and has completed checks to prevent further compromises on its front end.

The attack saw one of Venus' main smart contracts replaced with a malicious address, draining the protocol's USDC and ETH deposits.

Although the platform's services have been restored and the stolen funds have been secured, Venus' native XVS token has only risen by 0.9% from $6.10 to $6.16.

What Is BRC 2.0?

The team behind the BRC-20 token standard on Bitcoin has officially deployed its BRC 2.0 upgrade.

BRC 2.0 allows EVM functionality to be directly implemented into the BRC-20 indexer, allowing developers to build applications without relying on bridges and other middleware.

The update also provides additional programmability to BRC-20 tokens, converting them into EVM-compatible assets that can be used on other similar networks.

At the same time, transaction execution will continue to make use of Bitcoin’s underlying security.

According to Dune Analytics, BRC-20 transactions represent a large share of the total volume on the Bitcoin network, reaching as high as 130K average daily transactions in 2025 Q1.

While this number has dropped to around 30-40K since the start of Q2, BRC-20 transactions spiked to 168K on the BRC2.0 launch day.

Earlier today, Best In Slot, the Bitcoin infrastructure developers behind BRC 2.0, teased the launch of its first DEX and a slew of upcoming airdrops. 

Bunni Breached

The Ethereum-based Bunni DEX has paused all of its smart contracts after the protocol was exploited for $8.4M. 

Hackers took advantage of a vulnerability in Bunni's main smart contract system, BunniHub, allowing them to withdraw excess funds from its liquidity pools.

The attackers were able to drain over $8M worth of stablecoins from both Ethereum and Unichain, and are currently being held in 2 addresses on Ethereum. 

The Bunni team has acknowledged the hack and is currently investigating the matter. 

Since the attack, the platform's BUNNI governance token has fallen by 38.4%, from $0.011 to $0.007.

In Other News…

BNB Whale Suffers $13.5M Drain. A Binance Smart Chain (BSC) user fell victim to a phishing scam. Security firm ZeroShadow says that the attack pattern suggests that the hackers were North Korean state hackers. 

Crypto Trading Volumes Hit Yearly Highs. Crypto exchange volume amounted to $1.86T in August, beating out July’s $1.77T. DEX volume is also at its yearly highs at $368B.

Resurgence in Memecoin Google Search Volumes. Google search volume for "memecoin" has climbed back to 57 units after months of subdued activity. While still far off January’s high of 100 units, we are now back to levels seen in February 2025.

Upcoming Ethereum Fusaka Upgrade. Ethereum’s upcoming Fusaka hard fork is slated for early November 2025. Ethereum’s last major upgrade was Pectra, which saw the network hard forking in May 2025.

Staying Private For Now… According to Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek, the Singapore-headquartered crypto exchange currently “has the numbers” and was approached to take their firm  public. Marszalek however, said that the firm enjoys being private and has yet to make a decision.

LINEA Checker Live. Linea, the Consensys-backed ETH L2 has finally released their official LINEA airdrop checker. 750K wallets are eligible for the LINEA token which goes live on 10 September. The minimum threshold for qualification is 2000 LXP or 15,000 LXP-L.

Metaplanet Faces Financial Crunch? Metaplanet’s shareholders reportedly approved a $884M overseas stock as the Bitcoin treasury firm faces financial struggles after its stock plummeted 54% since mid-June. Metaplanet’s Bitcoin acquisition plan potentially faces headwinds now.

Trolling Trump. California governor Gavin Newsom said on a podcast on Friday that in his next campaign he would release his own memecoin, saying that his memecoin would do better than the “Trump corruption coin”. Gavin is likely saying this as a joke and is not likely serious about launching a memecoin.

Strategy Qualifies for S&P500 Inclusion. Michael Saylor’s Strategy, the largest Bitcoin treasury firm has officially qualified for a potential inclusion in the US stock index, S&P500 after its latest Q2 2025 earnings reveal. Strategy (ticker: MSTR) might be included in the index in the next rebalance on September 19.

Undisclosed Shills. Crypto investigator ZachXBT published an alleged price sheet covering more than 200 crypto influencers, who accepted paid promo deals with most not disclosing their posts as paid ads. He claims out of the 160 who accepted deals, only 5 of them disclosed their sponsored posts.

WLFI Holders Targeted. World Liberty Financial token holders are reportedly being drained of their WLFI tokens by hackers using a classic EIP-7702 exploit. The exploit happens after a user’s private keys were leaked, allowing hackers to pre-plant a malicious smart contract in their wallets.
