Solflare: Solana Wallet and Solflare Perps

Solana wallets are no longer just places to hold SOL. As the network has expanded across trading, staking, DeFi, collectibles, and consumer apps, wallets have become the main interface through which many users experience the ecosystem. Solflare is built around that broader role. The Solana-native, self-custody wallet combines everyday asset management with swaps, staking, market discovery, NFT support, dApp access, cross-chain deposits, DeFi portfolio tracking, and perpetual futures. Users approve activity from their own wallet rather than handing control of their assets to a centralized platform.

  • Solflare is a self-custody wallet built specifically for Solana and available on mobile, web, and as a browser extension.
  • According to Solflare, users can send, receive, buy, swap, and monitor assets; stake SOL; manage NFTs; connect to dApps; and view DeFi positions from one interface.
  • Self-custody gives users control of their keys, but it does not remove market, smart contract, liquidation, or operational risk.
  • Solflare Perps is the wallet interface to Phoenix Trade, a Solana-native perpetual futures orderbook. It supports long and short positions using USDC collateral.

What Is Solflare?

Solflare is a self-custody crypto wallet designed for the Solana blockchain. It launched in 2021 and is available on iOS, Android, and web, as well as as an extension for major browsers. According to Solflare, the wallet serves more than 4 million users and manages over $14 billion in assets.

Self-custody means Solflare does not hold users’ private keys or control their funds. Private keys are encrypted and stored locally, and users approve transactions themselves. Solflare cannot move or freeze assets on a user’s behalf.

That control also creates responsibility. Solflare cannot restore access if a user loses their recovery phrase and has no other recovery method. Users should store recovery information securely, verify the sites they visit, and review every transaction before signing.

Funding, Sending, and Swapping Assets

Solflare supports SOL, Solana tokens, and NFTs. Users can send and receive assets, buy supported crypto through integrated payment providers, or fund the wallet from other networks using cross-chain deposit addresses. These permanent addresses let users select a source chain and receive supported assets on Solana without opening a separate bridge interface for each deposit.

For spot trades, Solflare routes swaps across Solana liquidity sources to find an available route. Token pages bring execution and research into a single flow, featuring price charts, market data, watchlists, alerts, and token-risk information. Users can also set limit orders or automate recurring purchases with dollar-cost averaging tools.

If an eligible swap cannot proceed because the wallet is out of SOL, the required network cost can be covered from the swap itself. This allows the user to complete the swap without first sourcing SOL elsewhere. Routes, payment providers, and cross-chain transfers may still involve third-party fees, limits, delays, or smart contract risk.

Staking and Tracking DeFi Positions

Solflare supports native SOL staking, allowing users to select a validator and delegate SOL while retaining ownership of their assets. Rewards vary with network conditions and validator performance. Standard unstaking follows Solana’s epoch process, while an instant unstake route is available for a disclosed fee.

The wallet also provides a broader view of assets deployed across Solana. According to Solflare, DeFi Positions aggregates supported positions across more than 90 protocols, including lending markets, liquidity pools, farms, and liquid staking. Users can review estimated values and rewards, then open the original protocol to manage a position. It is a portfolio view rather than a replacement for the underlying applications.

NFTs, dApps, Discovery, and Magic

Solflare displays Solana NFTs alongside other assets and supports individual or bulk transfers. Users can connect to exchanges, marketplaces, games, and DeFi apps through the extension or mobile wallet while retaining control over transaction approval. Discovery features surface market information, ecosystem content, and new collections without requiring users to leave the wallet first.

Solflare Magic extends that interface through an optional AI assistant. According to Solflare, the current beta can help users research markets, analyze wallet activity, create charts and alerts, and prepare reviewable spot-trading instructions. Users must approve transactions before execution, and beta functionality may change over time.

What Are Solflare Perps?

Solflare Perps brings perpetual futures into the same wallet interface, powered by Phoenix Trade on Solana. A perpetual futures contract, or perp, provides price exposure to an asset without ownership and has no fixed expiry date. Traders can go long if they expect the market to rise, go short if they expect it to fall, or use a short position to hedge spot exposure.

Phoenix Trade supplies the underlying perpetual markets and account infrastructure. Phoenix uses an on-chain orderbook, where buy and sell orders are matched through the venue rather than priced only through a single automated liquidity pool. Solflare provides the wallet-native trading interface, order previews, position controls, and portfolio context.

Positions use USDC collateral and isolated margin. Each isolated position has its own assigned collateral, helping to contain the effects of a liquidation to that position rather than to the user’s other wallet assets. However, the collateral committed to a position can still be lost.

The Solflare and Phoenix interfaces use the same underlying trader account. Positions opened through Phoenix can appear in Solflare, and supported positions can be managed from Solflare mobile. Users can add or remove collateral, reduce or close positions, and view position and account-level profit-and-loss history.

Market availability depends on Phoenix’s liquidity and uptime requirements and may include crypto, stock, ETF, and commodity reference markets. A perp linked to a stock, ETF, or commodity does not convey ownership or rights in the underlying asset.

Because perps do not expire, funding payments help keep their prices aligned with the underlying markets. Depending on market conditions, longs may pay shorts or shorts may pay longs. Funding can therefore increase or decrease a position’s return. Trading fees, funding, and other applicable costs are shown in the product experience before approval.

Perpetual futures are high-risk leveraged products. Leverage magnifies both gains and losses, while rapid price movements can trigger liquidation. Traders should also consider orderbook liquidity, slippage, funding, smart contract risk, and network conditions. Availability varies by jurisdiction.

How Solflare Approaches Wallet Security

Solflare states that its wallet combines local key storage with transaction simulation, warnings for suspicious activity, token-risk signals, scam-site blocklists, and biometric locks on compatible devices. It also supports hardware wallets and tools for organizing multiple wallets, seed phrases, and Ledger accounts.

These features can help users identify risks, but no wallet can catch every malicious contract or social engineering attempt. Users should verify domains and token addresses, treat unsolicited assets and support messages cautiously, and never share a recovery phrase or private key.

Closing Thoughts

Solflare’s approach is to make the wallet a working interface for Solana rather than a passive asset viewer. The same self-custody account can support transfers, swaps, staking, NFT management, dApp access, DeFi tracking, cross-chain funding, and market research.

Solflare Perps applies the same idea to leveraged trading. Solflare supplies the familiar wallet experience, while Phoenix Trade provides the Solana-native orderbook and perpetual market infrastructure underneath. Bringing these functions together can reduce friction, but it does not reduce the financial risk of leverage or replace the need to understand each transaction.

For users whose activity is centered on Solana, Solflare brings these functions into one self-custody interface. Whether those functions are appropriate depends on the user’s goals, experience, and risk tolerance.
