What Is 3DOS?
3DOS is a decentralized operating system that utilizes blockchain technology to create an alternative to the conventional manufacturing process. Users can contribute resources, upload original designs to earn royalties, and order products that are then locally made.
Key Takeaways
-
3DOS is a peer-to-peer commodity sharing network that leverages blockchain technology to create a network of 3D printers.
-
The project is bringing a decentralized approach to the traditional manufacturing process which is typically costly, creates waste, and not easily accessible.
-
Interested users can now earn reward points for downloading the 3DOS extension and completing tasks.

Sharing economy platforms like Uber and Airbnb are well known because of their ability to connect asset owners with those who need temporary access to them. Homeowners can let guests stay in their empty homes, and car owners can provide rides to passengers. Instead of owning assets or facilities, these platforms take advantage of a decentralized system to facilitate transactions, communication, and payments.
Networks that are built on peer-to-peer (P2P) commodity sharing have high potential for scalability since the network of asset owners can keep growing without the company needing to invest in a physical inventory. This model allows owners to turn their idle assets into income-generating opportunities by matching supply with demand while also ensuring quality.
3DOS: A P2P Manufacturing Network
Similarly, 3DOS is a P2P commodities sharing network that is building on this concept but with a focus on 3D printing. The project is named 3DOS because it represents a 3D Operating System that is bridging the digital world to the physical one.
3DOS was founded in 2022 by John Dogru who still serves as the CEO of the company. He was previously a lead engineer at Dell and has founded several other tech start-ups. Other key team members of 3DOS include Shubham Koli as Chief Blockchain Architect and Rene-Oscar Ariko as Head of Sales. Together, they have introduced 3DOS to customers like Harvard, MIT, Caltech, Google, Microsoft, NASA, and more.
Manufacturing is one of the most significant industries globally and 3DOS has created a network that taps into it. This network allows anyone with a compatible 3D printer to accept requests for print jobs on-demand locally. Since products are manufactured locally and only once an order has been placed, the process eliminates waste, inventory space, and the need for international shipping.
How 3DOS Creates A Decentralized Manufacturing Network
3DOS is leveraging Sui, a Layer 1 (L1) blockchain, to further expand the project’s network. Sui’s industry-first zkLogin technology makes it easy to onboard new users to 3DOS by letting them access the service with their social accounts like Google or Twitch.
By utilizing blockchain technology, the project is able to operate as a decentralized network to connect thousands of printers globally without the need for a central authority. The blockchain also records every transaction and manufacturing step to ensure end-to-end traceability and enhance transparency in a process that is usually kept vague. Customers can verify where and when a product was made.
On top of that, 3DOS enables individuals and businesses to design and bring their products to life. All designs uploaded to the network are tokenized as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the blockchain to ensure proof of ownership and authenticity. Each time a creator’s design is produced, they will earn royalty payments.
Designers, entrepreneurs, and small scale businesses can now participate in the manufacturing process without the large commitments that factories would require. This would include spending thousands on making prototypes, submitting minimum quantity orders, and then holding the inventory space.
Earning 3DOS Reward Points
Powering the decentralized network of 3D printers is the 3DOS token, which is used to incentivize and encourage active participation. Users are rewarded for contributing designs and manufacturers receive incentives for contributing to the growth of the ecosystem.
Interested users can now earn points for completing tasks with the potential of these points being exchanged for 3DOS tokens once it is live. At the time of writing, the points program has been structured to incentivize adoption by rewarding those who increase 3DOS awareness.
However, do note that the 3DOS team has not officially announced when the Token Generation Event (TGE) or official token launch will be held. Additionally, at the time of writing there is no confirmation that the points earned for completing tasks will provide participants with a token airdrop allocation. Therefore, following the steps below to interact with 3DOS and earn points does not guarantee a future token airdrop allocation.
Step 1: Register
Visit https://3dos.io/map and click on Start Now.

Choose your method for signing up which includes using your Google or Twitch account or the usual email and password method. Navigating to this page from the previous one will ensure that the needed referral code is automatically entered. This is a general referral code provided by 3DOS, but you can choose to input your own if someone else has shared theirs with you.

Then login to your newly created account.

Once in, you can claim your daily 3DOS reward. Do note that if you sign up via email, you will need to verify it first.

Make sure to visit the dashboard everyday to claim your daily rewards.

Step 2: Download Extension
In the top right corner of your dashboard, proceed to Download Extension.

This will redirect you to the Chrome store where you can Add the extension.

Back on your dashboard, you will need to Generate API Key. Copy this API key and open your 3DOS extension.

In the extension, Login with your account.

Then paste the API key and Apply it. Your extension will then start earning you rewards.

Step 3: Refer Others
In the left menu panel, go to the Referral Program.

On this page you will find your referral code to share with others. There are various tiers with corresponding rewards based on the number of successful referrals achieved.
Each successful referral will earn you 300 points as well as an additional 10% bonus for 24 hours. A referral is only considered successful when the user signs up with your referral code, downloads the extension, and inputs their API key.

Step 4: Complete Tasks
In the same left menu, go to Earn More Points.

Here, you will see various social tasks that you can complete to earn additional reward points. We will use the final task as an example. Click on Earn Now.
However, do note that at the time of writing, the tasks have an expiry time of 4 days. This means the tasks might be different by the time you are completing this step.

After clicking Earn Now, you will be redirected to the 3DOS community page. Proceed to Join Now.

You can choose to login with a social account or wallet like MetaMask. In this guide, we proceeded with the social account we used to sign up for our account.

Once you have joined, you can proceed to browse and complete each available task which includes following 3DOS on X, liking specific posts, and joining the network’s Discord.

Conclusion
3DOS is taking a decentralized approach to manufacturing by leveraging Sui to create a network of 3D printers around the world. It presents an alternative manufacturing process that aims to remove many of the challenges that businesses or individuals might face. The project features token-driven incentives with interested users now able to earn reward points for a potential future token airdrop allocation.
