What Is Sonic?

Sonic is the first atomic Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) Layer 2 solution built specifically for decentralized gaming. The platform aims to enable sovereign game economies that can roll up and settle on the Solana network. It is powered by the HyperGrid framework, a core technology developed by Mirror World that enhances customizability and scalability while remaining compatible with Solana’s Layer 1 services. This allows developers to deploy custom Sonic SVM chains  and offers scaling advantages. Sonic itself is able to process millions of requests per second for games to create a high-performance environment for both developers and players. 

Other than that, the platform also supports atomic interoperability to facilitate secure and efficient exchanges across multiple networks. This enables transactions on Sonic without needing to redeploy existing Solana programs and accounts. As a result, this feature lets developers leverage Solana’s Layer 1 services and liquidity directly. On top of that, Sonic is designed to offer fast transaction speeds with low costs in order to become one of the fastest on-chain gaming experiences available and can handle up to 50,000 transactions per second on its grids.

Sonic is also Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible, allowing developers to write applications for EVM and execute them on Sonic’s SVM. As such, the platform is able to facilitate the seamless deployment of decentralized applications from EVM chains to Solana. Sonic has built-in mechanisms that help developers build and execute game development on Solana such as a sandbox environment, customizable gaming primitives, and extensible data types. 

The team behind Sonic is Mirror World Labs, an organization building out Solana’s Web3 gaming infrastructure. Sonic recently raised $12 million in a Series A funding round led by BITKRAFT which received participation from Galaxy Interactive, Big Brain Holdings, and others. This funding is aimed at accelerating the development of the Sonic protocol and improving the gaming infrastructure on Solana.

Step 1: Connect Wallet

First, head to https://odyssey.sonic.game/ and Connect Wallet in the upper right corner. 

At the time of writing, the Backpack and Nightly wallets are the only options that support Sonic. You will  need to use one of these in order to complete tasks and claim rewards.

In this guide, we are using the Backpack wallet.

Step 2: Request Sol Test Token

Before requesting Sol test tokens, you need to add the Sonic Devnet to your wallet. In your Backpack wallet, go to Settings which is found under Account.

Click on Preferences and turn on Developer Mode.

Then back in your wallet, Add Network under your wallet.

Type in Sonic Devnet and choose to enable it.

Now that you have the Sonic Devnet in your wallet, go to https://faucet.sonic.game/#/ and paste your wallet address in the space. Confirm Airdrop to receive your Sol test tokens.

Step 3: Complete Tasks

There are a few tasks you can complete to earn Ring Mystery Boxes. The first is to Meet Sonic and follow the protocol’s social media. Click Meet Sonic to be directed to the task page.

Click on Follow on X and authorize the app to access your account. 

Then Join Discord which will open up your app and add you to Sonic’s Discord server.

After that, head over to the Check In task page where you can perform the daily check-in. The rewards for checking in is broken down as:

• Check in for 1 - 7 days: 1x Ring Mystery Box

• Check in for 8 - 14 days: 2x Ring Mystery Boxes

• Check in for more than 14 days: 3x Ring Mystery Boxes

Therefore, checking in daily will help you earn more ring mystery boxes.

On the Referral page, you will find your invite code to share with others. Each successful invitee who completes the Meet Sonic task will reward you with a ring mystery box.

Lastly, you can head over to Game Adventure to explore the different games available. Sonic plans to keep adding more so be sure to check this page often for any new games. 

At the time of writing, there are three available games which are SnakeLite, FoMoney meets 2048, and JogoJogo.

Step 4: Collect Rings
