Volume Trend (2026 January - June)

KuCoin's spot exchange averaged $1.99B in daily trading volume from January to June 2026. Volume spiked to $6.91B in early February on a BTC liquidation event, before settling into a lower range through Q2 alongside the broader market slowdown. Overall, trading activity within KuCoin remains healthy with growth that looks to be held back mainly by bear market conditions.

KuCoin's perps exchange averaged $3.07B in daily trading volume from January to June 2026, with a mild weekday/weekend swing at $2.85B and $2.58B, respectively — a difference of 9.4%. Volume spiked to $6.73B in early February on the BTC liquidation event, and held up notably better than spot volumes through the broader market slowdown that followed.
Exchange Reserves

Generally, absolute token counts for the majors and stablecoins showed either flat movement or an increase, indicating a pattern of inflows for KuCoin throughout H1 2026. BTC holdings were nearly flat (9,366 to 9,289 BTC, -0.8%) despite BTC's price dropping roughly a third over the period. ETH holdings grew more concretely, rising +22.1% from 105,715 to 129,069 ETH. Stablecoins (USDT + USDC) dipped to their lowest point in mid-March, then rose sharply through April before declining into the back half of the period. Overall, stablecoin holdings grew +1.5% in absolute terms over the full six months. This month also marks the 44th consecutive month of their Proof of Reserve audit, which showcases their commitment to transparency among their users.

KuCoin's token reserves held up relatively well during this bear market, declining the 2nd smallest of 21.8% compared to a 24.7% average decline across the Top 8 exchanges.
Coin Listings: KuCoin’s Rapid Tokenized Stocks Adoption

In total, KuCoin listed a total of 107 new tokens for spot trading from January to July 2026. On the perps side, KuCoin introduced 198 new contracts. The vast majority, 121 of 198 (61.1%) were tokenized stocks or index perpetuals.
KuCoin has responded quickly to traders’ shift in preference towards trading equities, by rapidly expanding their range of stock-linked perpetual contracts in Q2 2026. Initially, the category did not exist on the exchange before March 13, 2026 but grew quickly in just over three months with the launch of MSTR and TSLA. By July 29, the category had expanded to 121 contracts, covering nearly the entire US mega-cap tech stack (AAPL, MSFT, NVDA, META, GOOGL, AMZN), major semiconductor names (INTC, AMD), financials (JPM, V, BX), consumer names (WMT, MCD, UBER), leveraged and inverse ETFs (SOXL, TQQQ), country ETFs (EWY), and even a pre-IPO contract referencing OpenAI (OPENAI). The pace accelerated over time, beginning with popular contracts referencing AI stocks (NVDA, GOOGL) on March 26, 2026 and later covering the popular contracts referencing South Korean equities (SAMSUNG, SKHYNIX) on June 4, 2026.
Most Traded Pairs

H1 2026 saw a noticeable shift away from BTC and ETH, where their combined trading dominance amongst the Top 18 spot pairs declined from 74.3% to 45.2% by the end of June 2026. The shift reflected broader market rotation and increased participation across altcoins, with several assets recording temporary increases in trading share during periods of stronger price momentum before activity normalized as market conditions cooled. KuCoin’s top 18 traded pairs also reveals contrasting differences of trader behaviors as compared to other top crypto exchanges, where traders tend to prefer to trade the majors more so than altcoins. By comparison, trading activity on KuCoin showed faster rotation into emerging narratives than observed across several other major exchanges.KuCoin users seem to be more in tune with current market trends, jumping on trending tokens as narratives emerge, which validates KuCoin’s listing strategy.

KuCoin's Top 18 perps contracts make up 64.9% of total perps trading volume in the first half of 2026, a lower concentration compared to spot. This is also quite different compared to other major exchanges, which tend to have heavier concentration in the majors, a sign that investors on KuCoin are much more active in trading altcoin perps vs their peers. By the end of H1 2026, the top 4 contracts (BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP) account for 52% of Top 18 volume, with BTC alone contributing 24.0% and ETH 18.0%.
Best Performing Spot Assets

According to KuCoin spot-market data, the 15 strongest-performing assets in H1 2026 each gained more than 100%, with AI and DeFi-linked tokens featuring prominently. Note, these figures reflect historical market performance rather than an assessment of project quality or future prospects.
A Market Moving Beyond Trading
H1 2026 reflects a crypto market undergoing structural change: derivatives remained comparatively resilient as spot activity moderated, while trading became more diversified, narrative-driven and connected with traditional-market exposure. Viewed across nine years, KuCoin’s evolution illustrates the industry’s broader shift from token trading and discovery toward institutional infrastructure, payments, regulatory frameworks, reserve transparency and real-world utility. Its user growth also reflects wider participation across successive market cycles. The next phase of competition will likely depend less on volume alone and more on market depth, relevant products, security, transparency, regulatory readiness and practical access to the digital asset economy.
