What is xTAO about?

xTAO is the receipt token that users receive when they stake their $TAO via Project Rubicon. It represents their staked position and accrues the interest from the validator staking rewards.

Users can unwind their position by exchanging their xTAO tokens for the underlying $TAO. The xTAO price increases over time as more rewards are accrued from validator rewards.

We give users the ability to stake their $TAO, while remaining liquid.

What makes xTAO unique?

Key xAlpha Functionality

• Mint: Users will deposit Bittensor Mainnet TAO in the bridge to mint xTAO on the Subtensor EVM
• Redeem: Users can redeem their xTA) on the SubtensorEVM for the underlying TAO that is sitting on Bittensor Mainnet
• Automatic Rebasing: As the xTAO tokens balance increases with staking yields on Bittensor mainnet, the value of each xTAO in TAO will increase, meaning more TAO will be required to stake 1 xTAO in future
• CCIP Bridging: Bridging the token to other networks from SubtensorEVM will be handled by the Chainlink CCIP

History of xTAO

xTAO was created in a partnership between General Tensor and Chainlink to bring $TAO and other Bittensor assets to Base. We wanted to provide retail investors more access to Bittensor, as it can be complicated to download new wallets and access new chains.

We worked closely with the Base team to amplify the messaging, and now with the Aerodrome team to promote AERO rewards to traders of the xTAO pools.

What's next for xTAO?

We will add additional ways to use your liquid staked TAO in Base DeFi, and potentially bridge xTAO to new blockchains as well. We will work closely with the Aerodrome team to promote the xTAO/USDC pool to bring new trading volume to the pool. The more trading volume and AERO rewards available, the more TVL users will bridge from Bittensor mainnet, therefore completing a positive feedback loop that will give xTAO holders more APY.

xTAO provide a number of key benefits:

• Providing a bridgeable token that can be used on deeper liquidity networks (i.e. Ethereum, Hyperliquid, Base, Avalanche, etc.) by integrating with Chainlink’s CCIP to facilitate this bridging
• Provide a way for users that are not familiar with Bittensor mainnet to access Bittensor
• Access deeper liquidity on other networks
• Composable primitative to facilitate further DeFi use cases
