About NEM
NEM was a blockchain platform launched in March 2015, one of the pioneers in the industry, aiming to improve on the imperfections of other chains at the time. It was one of the first non-Turing complete chains to feature user-defined tokens, called mosaics, namespaces, multisignature accounts, and a P2P reputation system based on EigenTrust++. Notably, NEM introduced the PoI consensus mechanism, which rewarded on-chain activity and deterred the concentration of wealth commonly associated with proof-of-stake. The NEM client, NIS, is written in Java. Today, NEM remains a highly-traded cryptocurrency, with current development focused on its merge with another blockchain platform, Symbol.
